Doctor, Hospital Booked for Medical Negligence
Patient suffers burn during C-section
Panchkula: A doctor and a private hospital in the Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) area have been booked after a 31-year-old woman reportedly sustained a burn injury during a Caesarean section. The FIR was registered at MDC police station following a complaint by a resident of Sector 21, Panchkula.
Incident Details
Burn discovered after surgery
The complaint states that the patient suffered a serious burn near her ankle during a C-section on November 16, 2025. The hospital did not immediately inform the patient or her family, and the injury was reportedly discovered later by family members.
Alleged Impact on Patient
Physical, emotional, and financial toll
The family claimed the burn caused severe pain, permanent scarring, risk of infection, and emotional trauma. They also stated that extended medical treatment and additional expenses were required to manage the injury.
Legal Action Taken
FIR registered under BNS Sections
Following referral for medical examination and expert review, offences under BNS Sections 125(a) (reckless or negligent acts endangering life) and 289 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) were applied. An FIR was registered earlier this month.
Hospital Response
Comprehensive care provided
A spokesperson for Cloudnine Hospital stated that the case had been reviewed by the CMO’s office, Panchkula. The hospital provided ongoing medical care until February 2, 2026, including plastic surgery interventions, and maintained that the patient’s condition was stable.
Allegations Refuted
Hospital calls claims misleading
The hospital described the family’s claims as “misleading” and aimed at damaging its reputation. It insisted that proper medical support was provided at all times.
Committee Findings
Accident deemed preventable
According to the civil surgeon’s report, the burn occurred due to an electric accident during the procedure. While no deliberate act by the operating team was found, negligence or improper handling of electrocautery equipment by hospital staff could not be ruled out.
Post-Incident Care
Dermatology and plastic surgery provided
The committee noted that once the burn was identified, the hospital ensured dermatological and plastic surgery care. The patient received continued treatment to manage the injury and prevent further complications.
