Surprise Raids, Strict Action and Mandatory Hospital Audits Announced Across State

The Haryana government on Wednesday announced a major crackdown on negligence and poor management in government hospitals, introducing a series of strict measures aimed at improving discipline, accountability and round-the-clock healthcare services across the state.

The directives were issued by Sumita Misra during a high-level State Task Force review meeting attended by civil surgeons, principal medical officers (PMOs), senior medical officers (SMOs) and senior health department officials.

According to official directions, government hospitals across Haryana will now be subjected to surprise inspections and strict punitive action if deficiencies are found in cleanliness, patient care, infrastructure maintenance or service delivery.

Mandatory Daily Hospital Rounds for Senior Officials

To improve supervision and patient care, all PMOs, SMOs and civil surgeons have been instructed to conduct at least two mandatory rounds every day in their respective hospitals.

Officials have also been directed to submit compliance reports to the state headquarters by Monday, treating all instructions as immediately enforceable.

The state government said the review meeting focused on strengthening hospital operations, improving patient services and ensuring that vulnerable patients do not suffer because of administrative lapses or equipment failures.

Haryana Govt Orders 24×7 Lab, X-Ray and MRI Services

In a major move to reduce dependence on private diagnostic centres, the Haryana Health Department has ordered that in-house laboratory services in all government hospitals must function 24 hours a day.

Radiology facilities, including X-ray and MRI services, have also been directed to remain operational round-the-clock without interruption.

Additionally, hospitals have been instructed to submit a detailed audit report of all functional and non-functional medical equipment by Monday. Authorities have been told to immediately report faulty machinery for urgent corrective action.

Dialysis Machines Must Remain Fully Functional

The Additional Chief Secretary stressed that dialysis services should not be disrupted under any circumstances.

Doctors and hospital administrations have been instructed to ensure that dialysis machines remain fully functional at all times so that no patient suffers due to equipment breakdown, operational delays or staff shortages.

Women’s Safety, Cleanliness and Drinking Water Prioritised

The Haryana government also placed strong emphasis on women’s safety, hygiene and dignity within hospital premises.

Hospital administrations have been directed to provide special attention to women patients during treatment and hospitalisation. Toilets in women’s wards and related facilities must now be cleaned every hour.

Security arrangements across hospitals are also set to be strengthened significantly.

Further, all government hospitals have been instructed to ensure uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water and maintain fully functional lifts, particularly for elderly and critically ill patients.

Fruit-Bearing Trees to Be Planted in Hospital Premises

As part of efforts to improve the hospital environment, authorities have been instructed to plant fruit-bearing and flowering trees inside hospital premises to create a healthier and more patient-friendly atmosphere.

FIRs Ordered Against Illegal Private Ambulances in Government Hospitals

In a significant enforcement measure, the Haryana government has ordered registration of FIRs against any private ambulance or transport vehicle found operating illegally within government hospital premises.

The move is being seen as part of a wider crackdown on unauthorised private influence inside public healthcare institutions.

Crackdown on Illegal Sex Determination Practices

The Health Department has also been instructed to intensify raids under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act framework to strengthen action against illegal sex determination and sex-selective practices.

Hospitals Asked to Respond Quickly to Media Reports

District health authorities have further been directed to respond promptly to issues highlighted in media reports related to hospitals and submit Action Taken Reports without delay on every publicly reported complaint or lapse.
