Una (Himachal Pradesh): The Himachal Pradesh Health Department has suspended a gynaecologist from a private hospital in Rakkad Colony following allegations of medical negligence in connection with the death of a woman during a tumour removal surgery.
Family Alleges Negligence
The patient, admitted to Una Regional Hospital for a stomach tumour, was advised surgery by the doctor. However, the family claims the gynaecologist directed them to a private hospital for the procedure under questionable circumstances.
The surgery took place on Tuesday evening. According to the family, the woman, who was stable before the operation, died shortly after due to alleged negligence. Hospital staff reportedly panicked during the procedure and withheld updates from the family.
Preliminary Inquiry Finds Doctor at Fault
A preliminary investigation, led by Medical Superintendent Dr. Sanjay Mankotia, determined the doctor was at fault. Following this, the Health Directorate suspended the gynaecologist and reassigned her to Shimla. A detailed inquiry will follow, as an investigative team is being constituted.
Legal Proceedings Underway
An FIR has been registered against the doctor and the private hospital under sections 106(1) and 3(5). The woman’s body was sent to Tanda Medical College for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Police assured the family of a thorough investigation, calming the situation at the private hospital, which had escalated due to local unrest.
Family Demands Action
The deceased’s husband alleged gross negligence, claiming, “My wife walked into the hospital perfectly fine, and now she is no more.” He and other relatives have threatened protests if strict action is not taken against the doctor and the hospital.
This incident highlights the growing concern over accountability and transparency in healthcare services, especially in cases involving patient fatalities.
