Operator Lacked Proper Authorization; FIR Registered Following Health Department Raid
Gurugram: In a significant crackdown on unauthorized medical practices, the Gurugram Health Department on Friday raided an illegal IVF centre in the upscale Sushant Lok Phase-1 area and seized 84 embryos, which were subsequently shifted to various hospitals.
Acting on credible intelligence, a team led by Dr. Ritu and formed on the instructions of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) raided a facility named “Fertility 2U Centre”. The raid uncovered that the centre had been operating without proper departmental approval and had been functional for nearly a year.
Embryos Relocated; Police Register FIR Against Centre Operator
During the operation, Manju Sharma, the operator of the centre, failed to present any documents authorizing IVF procedures. Although the centre had permission to run an ultrasound machine, officials revealed this was used as a cover to illegally conduct IVF treatments.
Following a complaint filed by Dr. Ritu, a case has been registered at the Sector-29 police station, and an investigation is now underway, police confirmed to PTI.
Health Officials Sound Alarm Over Threat to Public Safety
Officials emphasized that the seizure of 84 embryos without regulatory oversight represents not just a legal violation, but a serious risk to patient safety and ethical medical standards.
“This kind of unauthorized reproductive service can have dangerous implications for individuals and families seeking fertility treatment,” a senior health official stated.
Wider Pattern of Unlicensed Medical Practices
This case follows a pattern of illegal medical setups being busted across Haryana. As reported by Medical Dialogues, the Chief Minister’s Flying Squad had recently raided two unlicensed clinics in Panipat, revealing operations run by individuals without valid degrees or medical licenses.
In Jaipur, a sonography machine racket was also uncovered, where machines were being sold illegally for up to ₹10 lakh, raising further alarm over the growing trend of unregulated medical operations in the region.
Authorities Pledge Continued Crackdown
The Gurugram health department has pledged continued vigilance against such illegal clinics and urged the public to verify medical facility credentials before seeking treatment.
With legal proceedings now in motion, the “Fertility 2U Centre” joins a growing list of unauthorized establishments being brought under scrutiny, as the state intensifies efforts to protect public health and uphold ethical medical standards.
