Guntur: Dr. J. Naresh Babu, a renowned spine surgeon based in Guntur, has been honored with the Best Spine Clinical Research Award 2024 by the Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI). The accolade, which includes a medal and a cash prize of ₹25,000, was conferred during ASSI’s annual conference held recently in Bengaluru.
Groundbreaking Research on Cervical Spondylitis
Dr. Naresh Babu’s award-winning research, conducted at the Mallika Spine Centre in Guntur, sheds light on the mechanical factors that contribute to the worsening of cervical spondylitis. His study investigates the impact of daily neck movements on the progression of symptoms in patients with cervical spondylitis and nerve compression.
Using dynamic MRI techniques, the research evaluated 50 patients in sitting positions and during neck movements. The findings provide critical insights into the mechanical basis of symptom progression in cervical conditions, paving the way for more accurate diagnoses and improved management strategies.
Election as ASSI Secretary
In addition to this recognition, Dr. Naresh Babu achieved another milestone by being elected as the secretary of the ASSI in a competitive online election involving candidates from Delhi, Chennai, Pune, and Trivandrum. This marks the first time a spine surgeon from the Telugu-speaking states has secured this prestigious position in the association.
Dr. Naresh Babu will serve as the Joint Secretary and Treasurer for the 2025-2027 term and will assume the role of Secretary for the 2027-2029 term, further cementing his leadership in the field of spine surgery.
