
Visakhapatnam: The GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) Hospital has achieved a major milestone by receiving full accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), the institution’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane announced on Saturday.
Third Teaching Hospital in Andhra Pradesh with NABH Accreditation
With this recognition, GIMSR becomes the third teaching hospital in Andhra Pradesh to be accredited under the latest 6th edition NABH standards, which focus on excellence in patient safety, clinical care, and continuous quality improvement. NABH is a constituent board of the Quality Council of India, and is internationally recognized by the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) and Asian Society for Quality in Healthcare.
Enhanced Infrastructure and Services
Operations Head Krishna Karthik Bhogavalli, who led the accreditation efforts, detailed recent upgrades at GIMSR, including:
- 750 beds
- 16 modular major operation theatres
- Advanced Cath Lab
- Modern dialysis unit
- Specialised ICUs and pain clinics
- Upgraded radiology and diagnostic services
These facilities align with the stringent NABH criteria and enhance GIMSR’s capacity to deliver world-class healthcare.

Dr. Batmanabane emphasized that NABH accreditation enhances trust and transparency, benefiting not only patients but also medical students, staff, and insurance partners. It boosts institutional credibility and facilitates cashless treatment under major government health schemes, said Hospital Superintendent Dr. VV Narasimham Rao.
GIMSR NABH Coordinator Prabhavathi added that the recognition is a testament to the institute’s commitment to high-quality healthcare, modern medical education, and operational excellence.
