Ghaziabad: A surprise inspection at MMG Hospital on Tuesday revealed alarming conditions at the district’s largest public healthcare facility. The hospital, which sees over 1,000 outpatients and admits around 50 patients daily, is operating from a crumbling building plagued by cracks, water seepage, poor sanitation, and outdated equipment. A rusted ambulance was also found abandoned on the premises.
District Magistrate Deepak Meena, who conducted the inspection, directed the health department and hospital authorities to clean the premises within a week and remove all junk equipment and unused vehicles.
Despite its central location and crucial role in the city’s healthcare system, MMG Hospital has been neglected for years. “The doctors are good, but the building is scary. It gets dark in the corridors during the evening,” said an attendant accompanying a patient.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Akhilesh Mohan confirmed that a proposal for a new hospital building has been submitted to the state government. Meanwhile, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Chief Medical Superintendent, stated that construction of a new male ward building with 200 beds is already underway, along with a critical care unit with 100 beds. Once completed, the hospital will be able to accommodate 300 patients.
