Patna, July 3 — Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said Monday that the “Rajasthan model of healthcare” would be rolled out across Bihar if the INDIA bloc forms the next state government.
Speaking at a press conference at Sadaqat Ashram, the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, Gehlot lauded his administration’s Right to Health Act, which guarantees free tests, treatment and medicines for every family in Rajasthan. He contrasted the scheme with the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat, which he said covers “only a segment of the population.”
“If we come to power in Bihar, this model will be replicated here,” Gehlot declared, flanked by AICC Bihar in‑charge Krishna Allavaru and state party president Rajesh Kumar.
Gehlot criticised Bihar’s healthcare system, claiming 60 percent of doctor posts remain vacant and only ₹21,743 crore of an allocated ₹69,790 crore health budget (2016‑2022) has been spent. “The will to ensure good governance is obviously lacking,” he said.
Allavaru, meanwhile, labelled the current BJP‑JDU coalition a “trouble engine,” accusing it of importing Gujarat‑style exam paper leaks that threaten youth employment prospects. He recalled that during the 17‑month alliance between the Congress‑RJD‑Left bloc and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, “more than three lakh people got government jobs” without paper‑leak scandals.
“Bihar is yearning for change,” Allavaru said. “That change will come in the upcoming assembly elections.”
