Baramulla: A man falsely claiming to be a cardiologist from AIIMS New Delhi was apprehended by locals near Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla on Tuesday and later handed over to the police.

The impostor attempted to deceive pharmacists and locals by posing as a doctor. According to reports, he first approached a pharmacy in Baramulla’s main town, introducing himself as a cardiologist from AIIMS and requesting money for fuel in exchange for his services. However, the pharmacist grew suspicious and refused to comply.

Later, the accused visited a shopping complex near GMC Baramulla, seeking to rent space for a private clinic, further raising suspicion among local pharmacists. Upon verification, he was found carrying a fake identity card with the name Dr Abdul Razak Khan, claiming an affiliation with AIIMS New Delhi’s Department of Medicine (HIV/AIDS). The ID also listed a false Srinagar address near the DC Office in Tankipora.

Following his exposure, locals alerted the authorities, leading to his arrest. The police have launched an investigation into the case to determine the extent of his fraudulent activities.
