Doctors’ Body Demands Re-Exam Under Judicial Oversight, Calls for Computer-Based NEET System

Amid the escalating controversy surrounding the alleged paper leak and subsequent cancellation of NEET UG 2026, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has approached the Supreme Court seeking the replacement or complete restructuring of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the body responsible for conducting the national medical entrance examination.

The plea, filed through advocate Tanvi Dubey, urges the Apex Court to direct the Central Government to either replace the NTA or overhaul it with a “more robust, technologically advanced, and autonomous body” capable of conducting secure national-level examinations.

FAIMA Seeks High-Powered Committee To Monitor NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam

In its petition, FAIMA has requested the Supreme Court to appoint a High-Powered Monitoring Committee comprising a retired Supreme Court judge, a cybersecurity expert, and a forensic scientist to supervise the re-conduct of NEET UG 2026.

The association stated that the committee should continue overseeing the examination process until a proposed National Examination Integrity Commission (NEIC) is formally constituted to ensure transparency and prevent further paper leaks.

The doctors’ body has also sought strict judicial scrutiny over the re-examination process. According to the plea, the NEET UG 2026 re-exam should only proceed after the proposed oversight body certifies the security and integrity of the revised examination mechanism.

Demand For Computer-Based Test To Prevent Future Paper Leaks

One of the major demands raised in the petition is the transition of NEET from the traditional pen-and-paper mode to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format.

FAIMA argued that adopting a CBT model and digitally locking question papers could significantly reduce physical chain-of-custody risks and help prevent future paper leaks.

The plea also sought directions from the Supreme Court to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a detailed status report within four weeks regarding the ongoing probe into the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak.

According to the petition, the report should include details of the identified network, arrests made, charges filed, and the current status of prosecution.

Additionally, FAIMA requested the immediate publication of centre-wise NEET UG 2026 results to enable transparent detection of anomalies and irregularities.

NTA Cancels NEET UG 2026 Examination

The developments come a day after the National Testing Agency officially announced the cancellation of NEET UG 2026, which was conducted on May 3, 2026.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the NTA said that after examining inputs shared by central agencies and law enforcement authorities, and with the approval of the Government of India, it had decided to cancel the examination to ensure transparency and fairness in the system.

The agency also confirmed that the examination would be re-conducted on fresh dates, which will be announced separately.

Rajasthan Probe Sparks Major Concern Over Alleged Leak

The controversy intensified following the investigation by the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (SOG), which reportedly uncovered a “guess paper” containing more than 100 questions allegedly similar to those asked in the NEET UG 2026 examination.

Reports suggest that the questioned material included nearly 410 questions, of which around 120 allegedly appeared in the Biology and Chemistry sections of the actual exam.

The findings have triggered widespread concern among students, parents, and medical organisations, with growing demands for accountability and structural reforms in the examination system.
