Establishment of TCC in all medical colleges

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all Medical Colleges across the country to implement the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ and establish Tobacco Cessation Centers (TCCs), which are to be made operational soon. “The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the National Medical Commission, is initiating the establishment of Tobacco Cessation Centers (TCCs) in all medical colleges across India,” the NMC announced.

The TCC’s have been established in accordance with the Operational Guidelines launched on May 31, 2024 on World No Tobacco Day by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As per the directions of Health Ministry the National Medical Commission (NMC) has initiated the establishment of Tobacco Cessation Centres (TCCs) in all medical colleges across India. These centres will be critical in advancing public health by assisting individuals in quitting tobacco use and thus reducing tobacco-related diseases. As part of the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0, the National Medical Commission mandates that all medical colleges under its jurisdiction must establish a Tobacco Cessation Center. The centres should be operationalized as soon as possible.
