Washington – Dr. S. Raja Sabapathy, Chairman of the Department of Plastic, Hand, and Microsurgery at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, has made history by becoming the first Indian president of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH). He took over the role at the closing ceremony of the triennial IFSSH congress in Washington D.C.
The IFSSH, founded in 1966, is the world’s largest body of hand surgeons, comprising 62 member nations. It aims to advance knowledge in hand surgery and improve global standards of care.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Sabapathy emphasized the need to “provide quality hand surgery care to the millions who are less privileged.” He will be leading the federation with the support of an executive committee featuring representatives from the U.S., UK, China, Japan, Belgium, Colombia, and Ecuador.
This marks a significant milestone for India in the field of global medical leadership.
