Hyderabad: Renowned Neurologist and Padma Shri awardee Dr Chandrashekhar Mahadeorao Meshram has been appointed as the new President of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bibinagar, Hyderabad.
Accomplished Neurologist and Leader
Currently serving as Director of the Brain and Mind Institute, Nagpur, Dr Meshram is widely recognised for his contributions to clinical neurology, academic leadership, research, public health awareness, and social work.
Education and Medical Career
Dr Meshram completed his MBBS from Government Medical College, Nagpur, followed by MD (Medicine) and DM (Neurology) from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He has served as National President of the Indian Academy of Neurology (2013-14).
Global Representation in Neurology
Dr Meshram has represented India at the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) across Bangkok, Marrakesh, Stockholm, Vienna, Santiago, Kyoto, and Dubai. He also served as Trustee and President of the Tropical and Geographical Neurology Speciality Group of WFN, becoming the first Indian Neurologist in 65 years to hold such a position.
Contributions to Public Health Awareness
A strong advocate of health education, he has delivered talks through TV, radio, schools, colleges, and newspapers, focusing on conditions like stroke, epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, autism, and rabies. He has published 400 awareness articles and organised national and international conferences.
Research and Publications
As a principal investigator in 18 international clinical research trials, Dr Meshram’s work contributed to U.S. FDA approval of new drugs for epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease. He has 63 journal publications, serves as Assistant Editor of eNeurologicalSci, and is section editor of the Encyclopedia of Neurosciences.
Social and Cultural Initiatives
Beyond medicine, Dr Meshram is a trustee of Baba Amte’s Maharogi Seva Samiti, and provides scholarships to underprivileged students. He founded the Orange City Cultural Foundation, organising six international film festivals and other cultural initiatives in Nagpur.

Dr Meshram has received several prestigious honours, including the Padma Shri, Samman Puraskar by the Income Tax Department, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Jeevan Sadhana Puraskar, Inspiring Neurologist of the Country Award, and multiple lifetime achievement awards.
