Satkhira : Two doctors were injured and the emergency department of Satkhira Sadar Hospital was vandalised on Friday after angry relatives of a patient allegedly attacked the staff, reportedly over the absence of a doctor in the ward.
The injured include Dr ABM Akhtar Maruf, an emergency department physician, and Dr Tanvir Hussain, a visiting doctor from the Directorate General’s (DG) office.
Hospital sources said Shahin, a patient from Labsa Union, was admitted to a ward after receiving initial treatment at the emergency department around 9:30am. A short while later, the patient’s relatives became agitated after allegedly not finding a doctor present in the ward, and violently stormed the emergency department.
“The patient had already received treatment. But when relatives couldn’t locate the ward doctor, they suddenly attacked the emergency staff,” said Civil Surgeon Dr Md Salam.
A police complaint has been filed regarding the incident. Satkhira Sadar Police Station OC Shaminul Haque confirmed that an investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken accordingly.
