Three Doctors Injured in Violent Assault at Hamidia Hospital
Bhopal: A violent attack on doctors at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal has raised serious concerns about the safety of healthcare professionals. The assault, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, left three doctors injured, including a junior doctor who sustained a head wound.
Attack Triggered by Patient’s Death
The incident unfolded after a patient, Dolly Bai, passed away in the ICU around 1 a.m. Enraged family members and bystanders allegedly lashed out at the on-duty doctors. The situation escalated further when armed individuals reportedly joined the assault, causing panic among hospital staff and patients.
Police Investigation Underway
Over ten doctors were present in the ICU when the attack took place. Video footage of the incident, now circulating on social media, captures the chaos. Dr. R.P. Kaushal, Dean-in-Charge of Gandhi Medical College, lodged a formal complaint at Kohfiza police station. Authorities are analyzing the video to identify the suspects and have assured strict action.
Doctors Demand Urgent Security Measures
Though none of the injured doctors suffered critical wounds, the attack has left the medical community shaken. In response, doctors have urged the Chief Medical Officer to strengthen security measures, citing a growing fear due to repeated incidents of violence.
Kuldeep Gupta, President of the Junior Doctors’ Association (JUDA), condemned the attack, calling it part of a troubling pattern. He highlighted a recent case where a female doctor’s car was vandalized, with suspicious individuals spotted near the hospital at night. Despite repeated appeals for better security, such incidents persist.
Renewed Demand for Protection of Healthcare Workers
The attack has reignited demands for stricter security protocols in hospitals. Medical staff are now pushing authorities for swift action to prevent further violence against healthcare professionals.
