Conflict Background
The abduction is part of a series of violent incidents linked to the ongoing unrest between the Meitei and Kuki communities, which began in May 2023. Imphal Valley has seen an increase in abductions and extortion cases involving Valley-based insurgent groups. Over 100 cadres and criminals connected to these incidents have been arrested by law enforcement in recent months.
The police continue their efforts to curb insurgent activity and restore peace in the region.
