Late-night assault raises fresh concerns over safety of medical professionals
A shocking incident in Ahmedabad has once again highlighted the growing safety concerns faced by doctors across the country. A 64-year-old doctor was allegedly attacked while attending to an injured patient at his residence late at night, leaving him with a serious head injury that required 16 stitches.
Incident occurred during emergency house visit
According to police, the incident took place around 11:30 pm in the Sardarnagar area. The doctor had received an urgent call from a local resident reporting a head injury and immediately rushed to the patient’s home in Samarth Nagar.
Upon arrival, the doctor found the patient already injured. However, the situation escalated quickly when another man present at the house got into a heated argument with the patient.
Doctor attacked while trying to intervene
As per the complaint lodged with the Airport police, the patient alleged that the accused had verbally abused him, assaulted him with a plastic bucket, and issued death threats.
The doctor attempted to calm both individuals and advised them to resolve the matter peacefully. However, the accused turned aggressive.
“Do whatever you want, but do not speak between us,” the accused reportedly told the doctor before attacking him.
The assailant allegedly struck the doctor on the left side of his head with a steel walking stick, causing severe bleeding. He also reportedly issued death threats.
Multiple people injured during chaos
When bystanders tried to intervene, the accused allegedly attacked them as well. A woman suffered injuries to both hands, while another individual sustained minor injuries during the altercation.
