Incident at Diagnostic Centre Leads to Assault
Surat: A gynaecologist, Dr. Pratik Mavani, was assaulted by the relatives of a 20-year-old receptionist after she accused him of molestation. The incident took place at a diagnostic centre where Mavani works as a consultant, and the woman has been employed for the past four months.
According to the complaint filed at Kapodra police station, the alleged incident occurred on Wednesday at 2:30 PM. The receptionist had sent a female patient into the check-up room, where Dr. Mavani was conducting an examination. During this time, the receptionist claims that Mavani made sexually inappropriate remarks and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Assault and Police Investigation
Following the alleged incident, the woman called her brother, mother, and uncle to the diagnostic centre. A confrontation ensued, during which the hospital owner and Dr. Mavani denied the allegations and accused the woman and her family of attempting to extort money. This led to a physical altercation, and Mavani was beaten up by the woman’s relatives.
The receptionist also alleged that Mavani had molested her previously, including on December 23 and on multiple other occasions.
DCP (Zone 1) Alok Kumar stated, “We have booked the doctor for outraging the modesty of a woman and making sexually coloured remarks. Statements from witnesses are being recorded, and CCTV footage is being examined. Further action will be taken based on corroborative evidence.”
Mavani is currently receiving treatment for his injuries. The police have yet to record his statement. It remains unclear whether he will file a counter-complaint against the woman’s relatives for assault.
