Ulhasnagar : In a shocking case involving the rape of a 17-year-old girl by her 35-year-old neighbor, a doctor has been arrested for allegedly providing abortion pills to the victim, who was seven months pregnant. The incident came to light last week, and the victim reportedly underwent an abortion.
The main accused, his mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and the doctor were produced in court on Monday. The doctor was remanded to one day of police custody for further investigation, while the other three were sent to judicial custody. The mother-in-law and sister-in-law were arrested on Sunday and presented in court the following day.
Police officials revealed that the 54-year-old doctor, who runs a local clinic, was arrested on Saturday after investigations confirmed his involvement in providing abortion medication to the victim.
Shankar Awatade, Senior Police Inspector at the Central Police Station, stated, “Four accused have been arrested so far. The doctor has been placed in police custody for further investigation, while the other three have been remanded to judicial custody.”
The investigating officer added, “During the probe, we learned that the accused obtained abortion pills from the doctor. A case has been registered against him under the Medical Practices Act, and he has been remanded to police custody for further questioning.”
The 35-year-old main accused was earlier arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating the minor. Investigations also revealed that the accused’s wife and in-laws allegedly assisted him in the crime.
The accused lived with his wife and children in Ulhasnagar, while the victim, a student, was his neighbor. A case has been filed against the accused, his mother-in-law, and sister-in-law under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
