Suspected domestic dispute under investigation as delayed rescue response sparks public outrage
In a disturbing incident in Faridabad, a dental surgeon allegedly jumped into the Agra Canal from the Sector-17 bridge on Saturday evening, triggering a massive search operation and protests by local residents.
Incident After Family Function
According to reports, the doctor, a resident of Ballabhgarh and originally from Dayalpur village, was returning home with his wife and children after attending a family event at SRS Royal Hills in Greater Faridabad.
The incident occurred around 7:45 pm when he reportedly leapt into the canal following a suspected argument with his wife. However, officials have clarified that the exact cause remains under investigation.
Wife Stopped, Family Alerted
Eyewitnesses stated that the doctor’s wife also attempted to move towards the canal but was stopped by a woman present at the scene. Their son immediately informed his uncle, who arrived within minutes.
As darkness fell, a crowd gathered at the bridge, but locals hesitated to enter the canal due to safety concerns.
Delay in Rescue Triggers Protest
Despite being informed promptly, divers reportedly did not reach the spot for nearly three hours, leading to anger among residents. Protesters blocked the road near the bridge, demanding immediate action before police intervened to calm the situation.
A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrived around 11:30 pm and launched a search operation that continued until early morning but initially yielded no results.
Body Recovered After Extensive Search
The search resumed the next day under the supervision of SDM Ballabhgarh Mayank Bhardwaj along with other officials. After nearly 20 hours, the body was recovered from the canal and sent for post-mortem examination.
Police Probe Underway
Inspector Devender Kumar confirmed that the body had been recovered and investigations are ongoing. Police are questioning the doctor’s wife to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
While initial reports suggested a possible argument between the couple, family members have denied any domestic discord, calling such claims baseless.
Questions Over Emergency Response
The incident has raised concerns over delays in emergency response, particularly the late arrival of rescue teams. Locals have demanded accountability to ensure quicker action in similar situations in the future.
Community in Shock
The deceased doctor belonged to a family of dental professionals and co-ran a clinic with his younger brother, while their father is also a practising dentist. The sudden tragedy has left the family and local community in deep shock.
Authorities continue to investigate the case to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal incident.
