Health Minister Pankaj Singh confirms plan to scale up affordable healthcare centres across city

New Delhi: In a major push to enhance primary healthcare access, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced on Monday that over 30 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will be inaugurated across the national capital by the end of July, with an additional 75 centres set to open by August.

During a review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, the minister said that a comprehensive study is underway to identify more than 950 potential locations for these centres. These include community centres, banquet halls, market shops, polyclinics, and other underutilised government buildings, as per the PTI report.

Singh added that 429 sites under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have already been identified, out of which 98 have received No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for development.

“The Delhi government is committed to establishing 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare for every citizen, particularly in rural clusters and underserved urban areas,” said Singh.

These clinics are part of a central government initiative aimed at providing comprehensive primary healthcare, including services for non-communicable diseases, palliative and rehabilitative care, oral, eye and ENT care, and mental health support.

Currently, 33 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational in Delhi. With the upcoming inauguration of 34 new centres this week, the number will rise to 67, marking the second phase of the initiative’s rollout.

Singh emphasized that this expansion reflects the government’s strong commitment to strengthening the city’s healthcare infrastructure and delivering holistic, affordable, and easily accessible medical services to all residents.
