New Delhi : Senior doctors from Delhi government hospitals, including Ambedkar Hospital, Lok Nayak Hospital, and Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, submitted a representation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s office on Friday, demanding that they be shifted from the National Pension System (NPS) to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) under the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 1972.
A group of around 70 doctors visited the LG’s office to present their appeal. The doctors allege they are being denied OPS benefits on the grounds that they were recruited on contractual terms, despite having served for decades in Delhi’s public healthcare system.
“Under the new pension scheme, I will receive an amount that won’t even cover my medical bills,” said a senior doctor set to retire next year.
Doctors argued that it is unfair to penalize them for being appointed on a contractual basis when permanent vacancies were never opened by the government. “This is not our fault. We entered government service through due process,” said another senior doctor from a major Delhi hospital.
The group claimed that at least 300 doctors could be adversely affected by the current policy. They warned that if the government remains unresponsive, they may resort to protests.
Despite reaching the LG’s office, the doctors were unable to meet Saxena in person. “We’ve submitted our representations and are waiting for a response. But if our demands are ignored, we will have no option but to protest,” said one of the representatives.
The LG’s office did not issue a comment on the matter by the time of publishing.
