New Delhi: The Delhi government will recruit over 1,000 doctors on a contractual basis to strengthen primary health centres under its Ayushman Arogya Mandir initiative. The recruitment will follow National Health Mission guidelines, with shortlisted candidates required to undergo interviews and, where applicable, a skill test, a health department official confirmed.
The initiative aims to transition existing Mohalla Clinics into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to provide integrated wellness services under the Ayushman Bharat framework. All centres are expected to be established by 2026, with a target of launching 100 Arogya Mandirs each month.
In her budget speech, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, announced that 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs would be set up across the capital. Addressing concerns that the transformation of Mohalla Clinics might affect existing jobs, she assured that no employee would lose their position and that current staff would be given priority in the new framework.
The government also plans to inaugurate five hospitals and 150 Arogya Mandirs on September 17, the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as part of a “Seva Pakhwada” that will run until October 2. The programme will include the launch of 75 new schemes, foundation stone-laying ceremonies, and long-pending development works.
