Noida: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday inaugurated the 550-bed Medanta Super Specialty Hospital in Noida Sector 50, calling it an “excellent centre for quality healthcare” and a significant step toward strengthening medical infrastructure in the state.
According to an official statement, the Chief Minister said the new facility would not only boost advanced medical care in western Uttar Pradesh but also create substantial employment opportunities and attract major investments to the state.
Praising Medanta’s growth, Adityanath said the institution has become a national brand in premium healthcare, adding, “Whenever we choose the right direction through hard work and efforts, the results are good.”
Medanta’s Track Record and Role During COVID
Recalling Medanta’s earlier expansions, the Chief Minister said there were uncertainties when the hospital opened its Lucknow branch after its Gurgaon launch. “But Medanta established its reputation in Lucknow with excellent service. During COVID, the hospital was extremely useful for the people of Uttar Pradesh,” he said.
He added that western UP had long demanded a world-class medical facility, and the new Noida centre fulfills that need.
Healthcare Reforms for the Poor
Highlighting the state’s focus on accessible medical care, Adityanath said that 8–10 years ago, it was extremely challenging for poorer families to access costly treatments like kidney transplants, cancer therapy, liver cirrhosis care, and bypass surgeries.
Families often resorted to selling land or mortgaging jewellery, he noted. “Over the past six to seven years, under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Bharat, free healthcare worth ₹5 lakh per year has been provided to 50 crore people across the country.”
He stated that the UP government has expanded this coverage even further and connected more needy families to these schemes. Through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, ₹1,300 crore was provided within a year for the treatment of the poor.
Transforming Uttar Pradesh’s Image
Adityanath said the BJP government has helped UP shed its earlier image of “One District, One Mafia” and instead promoted the model of “One District, One Medical College.”
To support private hospitals, the government amended building regulations, reducing the mandatory road width for hospital construction from 18 metres to 7 metres, ensuring faster expansion of healthcare facilities across districts.
“People are now coming to Uttar Pradesh in large numbers,” he added.
Technology-Driven Healthcare Expansion
The Chief Minister highlighted that 10 crore people in UP are now connected through Ayushman Bharat and the CM Jan Arogya Yojana.
He announced that the government is working with IIT Kanpur to establish a MedTech Centre of Excellence, leveraging AI and advanced technology to improve healthcare delivery, particularly in remote areas.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, UP launched a virtual ICU under a hub-and-spoke model. This model is now being used in remote districts, with SGPGI Lucknow and Medanta Lucknow also adopting similar systems.
Eradicating Encephalitis in Eastern UP
Adityanath recalled the long-standing encephalitis crisis in eastern UP, where 1,200–1,500 children died annually during the monsoons for nearly 40 years.
“When I first became MP in 1998, I saw four children sharing one bed in a hospital,” he said. After becoming Chief Minister in 2017, he launched a statewide campaign to combat encephalitis.
“In 40 years, over 50,000 children died. But after the campaign, the disease was brought under control within just two years,” Adityanath said, adding that there are now no deaths from encephalitis in the region.
He concluded by praising the medical fraternity, saying, “If doctors can provide prevention, it is a major lifesaver. God has blessed doctors with great power.”
