Saifai : A serious altercation between junior doctors and nursing staff at Saifai Medical University in Etawah District has escalated, leading to a police case being registered against three junior doctors. The clash, which has been brewing for several days, centers around allegations of misconduct from both sides. According to reports, a female staff nurse filed a complaint accusing three junior doctors of inappropriate behavior during their duty in the ortho ward.
Allegations and Complaints
The nursing staff has accused the junior doctors of repeatedly misbehaving with them. In the latest incident, the nurse claims that the doctors attempted to secretly photograph and video her while she was working. She further alleged that this behavior was not isolated and had occurred multiple times before. The nurse had previously raised her concerns with the medical superintendent, but despite deleting some of the videos, the doctors’ behavior allegedly remained unchanged.
In contrast, the junior doctors have denied the allegations and claim that the nursing staff has been negligent in their duties. They allege that the nurses failed to report to work on time and were careless in essential tasks like administering medicine, dressing wounds, and ensuring patient care.
Protests and Police Involvement
The tension led to protests from both the nursing staff and the junior doctors on Wednesday. The protests continued until assurances were provided by the medical superintendent. Following the complaint, a case was filed against the three junior doctors based on the nurse’s allegations.
The police station in charge confirmed that a formal report had been lodged against the accused doctors. Meanwhile, the university administration, acknowledging the severity of the situation, deployed two platoons of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), along with key administrative figures, to maintain order.
Impact on Medical Services and University Response
The ongoing clash significantly disrupted hospital services, particularly in the outpatient department (OPD). No prescriptions were made from 9 AM to noon, which led to patients, some traveling from distant areas, being sent back. The OPD was reopened after 1 PM, and 804 prescriptions were processed within an hour.
In response to the unfolding situation, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof. PK Jain, formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter. The VC and other senior officials, including Dr. Ramakant Yadav, Dr. Aadesh Kumar, and Dr. SP Singh, met with representatives from both the junior doctors and nursing staff, assuring them of a fair and transparent investigation.
Conclusion
The conflict between junior doctors and nursing staff at Saifai Medical University has created a tense environment, affecting hospital operations and patient care. The authorities are working to resolve the issue, with a formal investigation underway to determine the veracity of the allegations and take appropriate action. The situation remains sensitive, with both parties awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
