Parents Allege Medical Negligence During Labour; Probe Triggered by Family Protest
Dharmapuri : The Dharmapuri police have registered a case against the doctors of a private hospital for alleged medical negligence leading to the death of twin infants during childbirth in March. The case was filed based on a complaint by R Arunkumar (31) and Nandhini (24), a couple from Ottapatti, who lost their first children under tragic circumstances.
Mother Collapsed After Injection, Infants Declared Dead
According to police sources, Nandhini was admitted to a private hospital on Siddha Veerappa Street, near the Dharmapuri bus stand, for her delivery. On the day of the delivery, the attending doctor prescribed an injection, and a test dose was administered by the nurses.
Soon after receiving the injection, Nandhini collapsed and was rushed to the operation theatre. Roughly two hours later, she was shifted to the Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital, where doctors informed the family that both foetuses had died during delivery. They also noted that Nandhini was in critical condition at that point.
Family Protest Triggers Investigation
Enraged by the outcome, the family members and locals staged a road roko (protest) in front of the private hospital demanding action. In response, the Dharmapuri Medical Services Department initiated an inquiry into the matter.
Subsequently, the couple filed an official complaint with the B1 Police Station in Dharmapuri, accusing the hospital of gross negligence.
Police File Case Under Multiple Sections

- Section 106, BNS – Negligence leading to death
- Section 92, BNS – Causing death of an unborn child by an act amounting to culpable homicide
