Court Intervention Leads to FIR in Alleged Malpractice Case
Lucknow: Following a court directive, a case has been registered against three doctors and staff members of a private hospital in Khadra on charges of medical negligence and extortion at Madeyganj police station.
Patient Misled and Overcharged for Treatment
The complaint, filed by Muskan, a resident of Golaganj, alleges that her husband, Alam, was misled into leaving KGMU Trauma Centre for “better treatment” at a private nursing home, where he later died due to alleged malpractice.
According to Muskan, Alam was stable upon admission, but an unqualified staff member, posing as the hospital’s director, administered excessive oxygen, worsening his condition. On the hospital’s instructions, the staff allegedly extorted Rs 1.5 lakh from Muskan under the guise of bed charges and medicines.
Hospital Concealed Death, Demanded Money for Ventilator Use
Muskan further claimed that after her husband’s death on November 15, hospital staff concealed the information and placed him on a ventilator at 2:30 pm, later demanding Rs 50,000 as ventilator charges. Alam was officially declared dead at 8 pm.
When Muskan requested a death certificate and discharge records, hospital authorities allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 and threatened her against reporting the matter to health officials. Despite months of follow-ups, she never received the death certificate.
Court-Ordered Investigation and Missing Evidence
Muskan repeatedly approached the Madeyganj police and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), but the FIR was only registered on February 24 after a court order. During the inquiry, the hospital failed to provide video footage of Alam’s death and could not verify the credentials of the treating doctor, who was reportedly a DM cardiologist.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Neha Tripathi confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with further action pending a report from the CMO’s office.
