Police Seize Mobile Phone as Forensic Investigation Begins; Incident Raises Serious Concerns Over Privacy and Dignity of the Dead

Bidar, Karnataka: In a disturbing case that has triggered widespread outrage, a mortuary attendant at the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) has been arrested for allegedly taking photographs of the bodies of deceased women during post-mortem examinations and storing the images on his mobile phone.

According to reports, the accused had been working in the mortuary department of the district hospital for several years. The alleged misconduct came to light after hospital authorities received information about the incident, prompting an internal inquiry.

During the preliminary examination of the attendant’s mobile phone, officials reportedly discovered multiple photographs of deceased women. Authorities are now investigating whether the accused had been engaging in such activities for an extended period and whether any of the images were shared with other individuals.

Following the revelations, Dr. Mohsin-ul-Haq, Director of BRIMS, filed a formal complaint at the New Town Police Station in Bidar. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused for further investigation.

Police officials have seized the mobile phone and initiated a detailed forensic examination to determine the extent of the alleged misconduct. Investigators are also probing whether any other persons were involved in the incident or had prior knowledge of the activities.

Authorities stated that the investigation remains ongoing and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the inquiry.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the violation of the privacy, dignity, and respect owed to the deceased. It has also sparked questions regarding oversight and monitoring within sensitive areas such as hospital mortuaries and post-mortem facilities.

The case has led to strong reactions from hospital staff and members of the public, with many demanding strict action against those responsible. The incident has further highlighted the need for enhanced security protocols, stricter supervision of mortuary staff, and robust safeguards to protect the dignity of the deceased in government healthcare institutions.
