Victim Identified as Second-Year Pathology Student at NSCB Medical College
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The body of Dr. Nikhil, a junior doctor who drowned in the Narmada River on Holi, was recovered on Monday near Lamhetaghat in Jabalpur. His body was found trapped between rocks, 500 meters from the accident site.
Tragic Incident After Holi Celebrations
Dr. Nikhil, a second-year pathology student at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, had visited the river with five friends after celebrating Holi. While bathing, he slipped and was carried away by the strong current.
Challenging 72-Hour Search Operation
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Home Guard teams launched an extensive three-day search operation. However, the strong currents made the rescue efforts difficult. On the fourth day, as the water flow slowed, the team finally spotted the body near Ghughra Ghat and retrieved it using ropes.
The body was then sent for postmortem at NSCB Medical College, where Dr. Nikhil was studying.
Investigation Underway
The Bhedaghat police have registered a case and started an investigation. While awaiting the postmortem report, they have already recorded statements from Dr. Nikhil’s family members.
Dr. Nikhil was a native of Chhatarpur and had been pursuing his medical studies in Jabalpur before the tragic incident.
