Theft Reported at Premier Institute
Bhopal: In a shocking revelation, multiple units of blood and plasma were allegedly stolen from the blood bank of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal, police confirmed on Thursday.
Complaint Filed by AIIMS Official
The incident came to light after Dr Gyanendra Prasad, the blood bank in-charge at AIIMS Bhopal, lodged a complaint with the Bagh Sevania police. Acting on the complaint, an FIR was registered on Wednesday against an outsourced employee under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Longstanding Suspicion
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Misrod area) Rajnish Kashyap Koul, units of blood and plasma had been disappearing from the facility for quite some time. The administration suspected insider involvement and had installed CCTV cameras to monitor the blood bank closely.
Accused Caught on Camera
Police sources revealed that CCTV footage captured the accused employee allegedly stealing plasma units and handing them over to an unidentified person just days ago. Investigators are now examining the footage to track the network behind the theft.
Investigation and Arrest Expected
The police said the accused has been booked and will be arrested soon. Authorities have assured strict action against those involved and are currently conducting a detailed probe into the incident.
Concerns Over Black Market Trade
This case has amplified concerns about the thriving black market for blood in Bhopal. AIIMS authorities suspect that the stolen plasma may be part of an organised network that illegally trades life-saving resources.
Past Exposé Raises Alarms
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported on “Operation Blood,” a sting operation by a local media outlet that exposed how patients in Bhopal were being forced to buy blood. The illegal trade reportedly stretches from small setups to top hospitals, including AIIMS, making this latest theft even more alarming.
