Bikaner | In a deeply disturbing incident, renowned paediatrician Dr. Shyam Agrawal was allegedly targeted by an extortion gang demanding ₹25 lakh as a one-time payment and ₹1 lakh per month as “protection money”. The gang reportedly issued grave threats, warning of serious consequences if their demands were not met.
The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on July 24 at Dr. Agrawal’s clinic near Jassusar Gate, according to a report by Digpu. The accused — identified as Vishnu Saadh, Abhishek Panwar, and several others — were captured on CCTV video and audio threatening the doctor. These recordings have been handed over to police and are being treated as crucial evidence in the investigation.
Following the doctor’s complaint, an FIR was registered under appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In response, a delegation of local doctors met with Bikaner SP Kavendra Singh Sagar on Monday, demanding swift and strict action. The SP has instructed SHO Vikram Tiwari to carry out a comprehensive investigation.
This alarming case has triggered concern and unrest among the medical fraternity, especially among private practitioners in the region. Many have raised concerns about their safety and vulnerability to criminal threats and have called for strong legal enforcement and immediate arrests to prevent future attacks.
Notably, this is not an isolated case. Medical Dialogues earlier reported that Dr. V. P. Gangadharan, a senior oncologist, was threatened by an unidentified group demanding ₹8.25 lakh in “blood money”, accusing him of being responsible for a girl’s death and threatening harm to his family.
These incidents have sparked demands for robust security protocols and zero tolerance policies against violence or intimidation of healthcare professionals.
