Agartala: A brazen attack on the residence of Dr. Ayan Roy, the Nodal Health Officer of Unakoti district, has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious concerns about the law and order situation in Kailashahar. The incident has left local residents questioning the safety of professionals and the overall security in the area.
The attack occurred late last night around 10:30 PM. Dr. Roy, along with his wife and daughter, had retired for the night when a group of unidentified miscreants targeted his home, hurling liquor bottles and creating chaos. Startled by the noise, Dr. Roy looked outside to find seven to eight intoxicated youths on three motorcycles causing disturbances near his residence.
“I was shocked to see a group of unruly individuals openly vandalizing and disrupting the peace at my home. As soon as I raised an alarm, they fled the scene,” Dr. Roy recounted.
Following the incident, Dr. Roy immediately contacted the Kailashahar police station. Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Sen Choudhury, along with a team of police and TSR personnel, promptly arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The next day, Dr. Roy filed a formal written complaint, demanding strict action against the perpetrators.
The attack has instilled fear among residents of the Durgapur area. Locals expressed concern over the rising number of criminal activities, particularly during nighttime. “If a senior health officer’s house can be attacked so brazenly, how safe are ordinary citizens?” questioned a local shopkeeper.
Many residents attributed the growing lawlessness to the lack of regular police patrolling and inadequate monitoring of suspicious activities. “After dark, Kailashahar becomes a lawless zone. The absence of police presence at night emboldens criminals to act without fear of consequences,” said another concerned resident.
In response to the public outcry, the local administration has promised swift action. “We have launched a thorough investigation and are working to identify the culprits. Strict measures will be taken against those involved in this attack,” assured Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Sen Choudhury.
