State Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory Now Accredited for 12 Major Viral Infections
Raipur: The Virology Laboratory at AIIMS Raipur, officially the State Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) under the Department of Microbiology, received its first NABL accreditation on 1st August 2025.
Accredited for Diagnosing Key Viral Diseases Including COVID-19, Swine Flu, and Cervical Cancer-Linked HPV
The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has accredited the lab for diagnosing 12 significant human viral infections such as Viral Meningitis/Encephalitis, COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2), Swine Flu (H1N1), Influenza B, RSV, High-Risk Human Papillomavirus (HR-HPV), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Hepatitis B and C viral loads, and Dengue.
Established in 2018, Serves Entire State of Chhattisgarh
Since its inception, the lab has been providing essential diagnostic services not only to AIIMS Raipur patients but also to samples from across Chhattisgarh. It plays a crucial role in COVID-19 testing, outbreak investigations of viral diseases like Chickenpox, Conjunctivitis, Mumps, and serves as the State Nodal Centre for COVID-19 testing, quality control, and genome sequencing.
Leadership Praises Team Effort and Quality Standards
Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd), Executive Director and CEO, congratulated the team on this milestone, calling NABL accreditation a key step toward national recognition. Prof. (Dr.) Anudita Bhargava credited the achievement to teamwork and dedication, while Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Singh Negi highlighted that accreditation under ISO 15189:2022 demonstrates the lab’s commitment to high-quality diagnostic testing.
