New ₹10 Crore Imaging Technology and Radionuclide Therapy Ward to Enhance Early Diagnosis and Treatment Outcomes
Major Healthcare Upgrade at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri
In a significant step towards strengthening advanced medical care, the Department of Nuclear Medicine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Gamma Camera (SPECT-CT) system along with a High-Dose Therapy facility.
The new facilities were formally inaugurated by Executive Director Ahanthem Santa Singh on Tuesday, marking a major milestone in expanding diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities at the institute.
₹10 Crore SPECT-CT System to Enable Early and Accurate Diagnosis
The newly installed SPECT-CT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography-Computed Tomography) system is a cutting-edge diagnostic imaging technology that allows functional imaging of multiple organs.
Procured at a cost of ₹10 crore, the system can perform over 30 different types of scans, helping in:
- Early detection of diseases
- Accurate diagnosis of complex conditions
- Better monitoring of treatment response
To ensure affordability, the cost of diagnostic scans has been kept between ₹150 and ₹1,500, making advanced imaging accessible to a wider population.
High-Dose Therapy Ward to Strengthen Cancer Treatment
Alongside the imaging system, AIIMS Mangalagiri has also commissioned a High-Dose Therapy ward dedicated to advanced radionuclide therapy.
This facility is expected to play a critical role in treating patients, especially those suffering from thyroid cancer, by:
- Reducing recurrence rates
- Improving long-term survival outcomes
- Providing specialized nuclear medicine therapies under one roof
Focus on Expanding Access to Quality Healthcare
Earlier this year, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel emphasized India’s rapid progress in healthcare accessibility.
Addressing the convocation ceremony at AIIMS Mangalagiri, she highlighted that universal health coverage is becoming an achievable reality, urging young doctors to contribute towards building an equitable and compassionate healthcare system.
The ceremony was also attended by Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics, Communications, and Human Resources, Andhra Pradesh.
A Step Forward in Nuclear Medicine Excellence
With the addition of SPECT-CT imaging and high-dose radionuclide therapy, AIIMS Mangalagiri is set to emerge as a key center for advanced nuclear medicine in the region.
These developments are expected to significantly improve patient care by enabling timely diagnosis, precision treatment, and better clinical outcomes for a wide range of diseases, particularly cancer.
