Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A doctor who charged Rs 2,500 for a Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) test at his private clinic, despite the test not being available at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is still employed in the administrative section under the AIIMS director. Dr. Samendra Kumar, who operates the private clinic and store, Prime Health Care, in Saket Nagar under the name of his wife, Dr. Anjali, continues to work at AIIMS.
According to a bill from Prime Health Care, the patient was charged Rs 2,500 for the FFA test, which was unavailable at AIIMS. Sources at AIIMS claim that Dr. Samendra Kumar also sold 300 contact lenses through his store, which were then surgically implanted at AIIMS Bhopal after cataract surgeries.
In addition, Dr. Samendra Kumar reportedly charged Rs 25,000 for anti-VEGF injections. A complaint about these unethical practices was filed with senior AIIMS officials a couple of years ago, but no action has been taken, and Dr. Kumar remains in his administrative role at AIIMS.
Director’s Statement: AIIMS Director Dr. Ajai Singh commented on the matter, saying, “This issue dates back to 2021. A complaint was made, and Dr. Samendra Kumar apologized regarding the allegations of unethical practices.”
