New Delhi: In response to rising incidents of violence and harassment against healthcare professionals, Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, a member of the Indian Medical Association: Junior Doctors’ Network (IMA-JDN) and a prominent medical influencer, has initiated a legal cell to support the medical community.
Purpose and Formation
Dr. Chauhan explained that his advocacy on social media for doctors’ rights highlighted the need for a more structured support system. Collaborating with Supreme Court advocate Satyam Singh Rajpoot, known for his involvement in high-profile cases like the TTD Laddu Prasadam case, the duo launched this initiative in October 2024.
Legal Cell Structure
- Leadership: The legal cell is headed by Advocate Satyam Singh Rajpoot, supported by his team and additional lawyers.
- Membership: The cell currently operates via WhatsApp, connecting over 700 healthcare professionals nationwide.
- Functionality: Doctors facing harassment, abuse, or professional challenges can post their concerns in the group. Legal professionals then guide them on possible courses of action, including pursuing formal complaints or cases.
Goals and Support
Dr. Chauhan emphasized the legal cell’s objective of linking healthcare professionals across states to ensure accessible and prompt legal assistance.
“Many doctors lack the resources or connections to address violence or harassment legally,” Dr. Chauhan said. “This initiative guarantees them the support they need to fight these challenges effectively.”
The legal cell represents a proactive step in safeguarding the medical fraternity, empowering doctors with legal recourse, and fostering a safer work environment.
