A senior doctor and Head of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, has been suspended following a complaint by a senior resident alleging harassment and inappropriate conduct. The institute has initiated disciplinary proceedings and assigned another senior faculty member to oversee the department during the inquiry.

Complaints Against Senior Doctor

According to officials, the action followed a recent complaint submitted by a senior resident. Officials also said that similar allegations had previously been raised against the doctor, including complaints concerning alleged inappropriate behaviour towards female doctors, nursing staff and other employees.

The earlier complaints reportedly included allegations of repeated late-night calls and messages to staff, requests for patient-related information to be shared on his personal phone despite other residents being available, and conduct during patient rounds that some employees found uncomfortable.

One complaint alleged that the doctor followed a female staff member to a restroom and made personal remarks concerning employees and their families. Another allegation stated that a female staff member was asked to undergo a pregnancy test in front of others, which she reportedly found humiliating and distressing.

Earlier Inquiry and Complaints

Officials said nursing staff and other employees had raised allegations of mental harassment and inappropriate behaviour against the doctor in 2025. Following an inquiry at that time, an internal committee reportedly issued a warning letter to him.

Officials further said that complaints related to the alleged conduct had also been submitted to the Human Rights Commission and the Women’s Commission, where grievances concerning the matter were registered.

The latest complaint has now led the institute to initiate a fresh inquiry and suspend the doctor pending the disciplinary proceedings.

Fresh Inquiry Initiated

Following the latest complaint, another senior faculty member has been given responsibility for overseeing the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery during the proceedings.

Officials have not disclosed further details regarding the latest allegations or the specific circumstances that resulted in the suspension. The matter remains under examination by the concerned authorities.

Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing disciplinary proceedings and the outcome of the inquiry into the allegations.
