The state has sought Rs 257 crore under the National AYUSH Mission for 2026-27 to expand AYUSH healthcare infrastructure, establish new medical colleges and strengthen services across Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Seeks Higher AYUSH Allocation
Andhra Pradesh has sought Rs 257 crore from the Central government under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) for the financial year 2026-27 to strengthen AYUSH healthcare infrastructure and expand services across the state, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said.
The proposal was announced during the first state-level conference of government AYUSH doctors held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada, where the minister outlined the government’s plans for infrastructure and workforce expansion in the AYUSH sector.
Government Plans to Address AYUSH Vacancies
According to Yadav, the state government also plans to take up vacancies in the AYUSH and food safety departments with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, in line with the government’s Zero Vacancy policy.
The minister said the government is focusing on strengthening both infrastructure and human resources to expand AYUSH services across the state.
Three New AYUSH Medical Colleges Planned
Land acquisition has already been completed for establishing Ayurveda Medical Colleges at Dharmavaram and Pithapuram, along with a Unani Medical College at Proddatur.
The three institutions are being planned with a combined investment of Rs 210 crore, reports the Times of India.
Six Integrated AYUSH Hospitals Proposed
The Andhra Pradesh government also plans to establish six Integrated AYUSH Speciality Hospitals at Tirupati, Giddalur, Nandigama, Tenali, Tekkali and Rampachodavaram.
The proposed hospitals are estimated to involve an investment of Rs 90 crore.
AYUSH Mission Funding Increased
Highlighting the state’s recent financial support under the National AYUSH Mission, Yadav said Andhra Pradesh received Rs 85 crore in 2024-25 and Rs 166 crore in 2025-26.
The minister expressed confidence that the state would receive a higher allocation for the 2026-27 financial year.
Rs 100 Crore Yoga and Naturopathy Institute Planned
The government has also allotted 15 acres of land near Guntur for establishing a Rs 100-crore Central Yoga and Naturopathy Research Institute.
Meanwhile, construction of the Rs 70-crore Naturopathy Medical College in Visakhapatnam is nearing completion.
Permanent buildings for AYUSH Health Mandirs are also in the final stages of development, according to the minister.
216 AYUSH Doctors Recruited
On the workforce front, Yadav said the Andhra Pradesh government has recruited 216 AYUSH doctors across various categories since assuming office.
The expansion of medical institutions, hospitals and workforce is expected to strengthen the availability of AYUSH services across the state.
Around 550 AYUSH Doctors Attend Conference
The conference was attended by Health Secretary G Veerapandian, AYUSH Commissioner Ronanki Gopalakrishna and approximately 550 AYUSH doctors from across Andhra Pradesh.
The state government said the proposed investments and infrastructure projects are aimed at expanding AYUSH healthcare, education, research and related services across Andhra Pradesh.
