Seven Ayurveda and Three Homoeopathy Centres in Wayanad to Undergo Quality Assessment Under State’s Third Accreditation Phase
The Kerala Health Department has included 10 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres in Wayanad under the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation programme, marking another step towards improving quality standards in traditional healthcare services across the state.
The selected facilities will undergo a comprehensive quality assessment as part of the third phase of Kerala’s NABH accreditation initiative for government AYUSH institutions. The evaluation aims to determine whether the centres comply with nationally recognised standards for healthcare delivery, patient safety and quality management.
Among the selected facilities are seven Ayurveda Health and Wellness Centres located in Vellamunda, Niravilpuzha, Thalappuzha, Padinjarathara, Kaniyambetta, Echome and Padichira. Additionally, three Homoeopathy Health and Wellness Centres at Koleri, Noolpuzha and Poothadi have been included in the current phase of accreditation.
As part of the assessment process, NABH evaluation teams will conduct an extensive review of operational and clinical practices at each facility. The inspection will focus on patient safety measures, infection prevention and control protocols, clinical documentation systems, availability of essential medicines, infrastructure readiness and the overall quality of healthcare services being provided.
The assessment will also examine staff competency through training records, sanitation and hygiene practices, and compliance with standard operating procedures. Officials said the comprehensive review will help determine whether each facility meets the quality benchmarks required for NABH accreditation.
According to the Kerala Health Department, the initiative is intended to promote greater uniformity and consistency in healthcare delivery across government-run AYUSH institutions. The accreditation process is also expected to strengthen institutional systems and improve service quality through adherence to nationally accepted standards.
Health officials further stated that securing NABH accreditation would enhance public confidence in government Ayurveda and Homoeopathy services. Accreditation under the national quality framework is expected to assure patients that these facilities meet prescribed standards for patient safety, infrastructure, infection control, clinical documentation, record maintenance and overall quality of care, contributing to a more reliable and standardised AYUSH healthcare system in Kerala.
