New Facility Under PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission Aims to Strengthen Healthcare Services in East Delhi
A new 100-bed Critical Care Unit (CCU) equipped with advanced ICU and emergency operation theatre facilities will soon be constructed at Swami Dayanand Hospital, Mayor Pravesh Wahi announced on Friday.
The announcement was made during the mayor’s inspection visit to the hospital located in Dilshad Garden, where he reviewed patient facilities, sanitation arrangements and preparedness measures amid the ongoing heatwave conditions.
According to the mayor, the upcoming critical care facility will be developed under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission and is expected to significantly improve healthcare services in East Delhi.
ICU, PICU, Nursery and Emergency Operation Theatre to Be Included
The proposed 100-bed Critical Care Unit will include modern healthcare facilities such as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), nursery and an emergency operation theatre.
Speaking during the inspection, Wahi stated that the new infrastructure would help reduce the need for patients to seek treatment at distant hospitals and ensure better access to advanced healthcare services closer to home.
“The construction of the Critical Care Unit will enable residents of East Delhi to access better medical treatment near their homes,” the mayor said.
Mayor Reviews Heatwave Preparedness and Hospital Facilities
During the visit, the mayor also inaugurated a newly constructed air-conditioned waiting room for attendants of patients and directed hospital officials to install additional benches for the convenience of visitors.
Officials informed that nearly 4,000 patients visit the hospital’s OPD daily. The mayor reviewed heatwave preparedness measures, including arrangements for additional beds, availability of ORS and cooling facilities for patients.
He further instructed authorities to strengthen sanitation measures across the hospital premises and improve accommodation arrangements for nursing staff.
Directions Issued for Better Public Amenities
The mayor also directed officials to install water sprinklers in the hospital park and ensure that air coolers are properly cleaned and made operational to provide relief during extreme summer temperatures.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the national capital and improve accessibility to critical care services for residents.
Recently, The Women’s Hospital, a multispecialty healthcare facility dedicated exclusively to women, was inaugurated in Nehru Enclave, South Delhi. The hospital aims to provide integrated healthcare services for women across all stages of life, including reproductive health, menopause, ageing and cancer care.
