Health Department acts swiftly; replacement deployed to ensure uninterrupted services
A Medical Officer posted at the Melahalli Primary Health Centre (PHC) has been relieved of his duties after alleged social media posts surfaced showing him in an intoxicated condition during working hours. The incident has prompted immediate action from district health authorities, who have also recommended strict disciplinary proceedings against the doctor.
Immediate Action by Health Authorities
According to officials, the Health Department initiated action as soon as the matter came to light. The doctor is accused of creating a disturbance at the PHC while under the influence of alcohol, raising serious concerns about professional conduct in a public healthcare setting.
Mysuru District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. PC Kumaraswamy stated that the Medical Officer has been directed to report to the Health Commissioner in Bengaluru. Authorities emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable, especially in a profession that demands responsibility and public trust.
“Indiscipline Will Not Be Tolerated”
Health officials reiterated that doctors and healthcare workers must carry out their duties with a strong sense of social responsibility. Any deviation from expected professional standards will invite strict disciplinary action.
“Indiscipline will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” officials said, underlining the department’s zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct.
Replacement Ensures Continuity of Services
To avoid disruption in healthcare delivery, an alternative Medical Officer has been deployed at the Melahalli PHC. Officials confirmed that patient care services continue smoothly without any interruption.
Personal Struggles Cited Behind Behavioural Change
Sources revealed that the doctor had been serving at the PHC for the past three years and had completed 15 years in government service. However, in recent times, his behavior reportedly changed due to personal and family-related issues. The department had earlier attempted counseling interventions, but these efforts did not yield positive results.
Rising Concerns Over Medical Misconduct
The incident comes amid growing concerns over cases of misconduct in the healthcare system. In a separate shocking case recently reported, an Operation Theatre attendant in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram district was suspended for allegedly impersonating a doctor and performing breast surgery on a woman.
The case surfaced days after the procedure when the patient filed a complaint, highlighting serious lapses in hospital oversight and patient safety protocols.
This latest incident has once again raised questions about accountability and monitoring mechanisms within public healthcare institutions, with authorities now under pressure to enforce stricter discipline and ethical standards.
