Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Tuesday announced that the construction and modernisation of 150 AYUSH health centres across the state will be completed within the next two months. The project, with a total outlay of ₹44 crore, is aimed at strengthening access to traditional Indian medicine systems.
Boost to Traditional Healthcare Access
The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to expand AYUSH services—covering Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy—across both rural and urban regions. The Minister stated that the NDA coalition government is committed to bringing affordable and accessible traditional healthcare closer to the people.
Work Progresses Under National AYUSH Mission
Officials informed that the works are being executed under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) 2025–26 plan. The project includes both new constructions and the upgradation of existing facilities to improve infrastructure and service delivery.
Out of the 150 centres:
- 90 centres are being modernised
- 60 new AYUSH centres are under construction
Distribution Across Healthcare Levels
Among the newly constructed centres:
- 26 centres are being set up in Primary Health Centres (PHCs)
- 26 centres in Community Health Centres (CHCs)
- 8 centres in district hospitals
The move is expected to significantly enhance last-mile healthcare delivery by integrating AYUSH services into existing public health institutions.
50% Work Completed, Deadline in Sight
According to the official release, nearly 50% of the construction and modernisation work has already been completed. The remaining work is progressing rapidly and is expected to be finished within the next two months, after which all centres will become fully operational.
Standardised Infrastructure with IPHS Norms
The project is being implemented under the supervision of the Andhra Pradesh Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation. Each centre is being developed in accordance with Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) and Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) guidelines to ensure uniform quality and infrastructure.
New Centres in Key Districts
New AYUSH units are being constructed in district hospitals at a cost of ₹50 lakh each in:
- Eluru
- Machilipatnam
- Ongole
- Chittoor
- Kadapa
- Kurnool
- Nandyal
Strengthening Holistic Healthcare Ecosystem
The expansion of AYUSH infrastructure is expected to complement modern medical services, offering patients a more holistic healthcare approach. With increased investments and improved infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh aims to position itself as a leader in integrated healthcare delivery.
The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s traditional medicine ecosystem while ensuring wider public access to alternative and preventive healthcare systems.
