An Amravati-based wildlife photographer and homoeopathy practitioner, Dr Tushar Ambadkar, has secured first place in a prestigious photography competition organised by National Geographic India. His award-winning image captured two Wood Sandpiper birds locked in a dramatic territorial clash.
The photograph earned top honours in the ‘Capture in Motion’ single-photo category, surpassing thousands of entries from participants across the country. The powerful frame stood out for its timing, composition and depiction of raw natural behaviour.
Apart from his success in photography, Dr Ambadkar serves as the Managing Director of Dr Tushar Ambadkar Advanced Homeopathy Clinic, a role he has held since December 2010. He is an alumnus of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and completed his medical education at Takhatmal Shrivallabh Homoeopathic Medical College.
His wildlife photography journey began in 2011 with a basic point-and-shoot camera, the only equipment he could afford at the time. Accompanied by his close friend Dr Prajakt Raul, he started photographing birds in his backyard and nearby forests of Amravati.
Reflecting on his early struggles, Dr Ambadkar shared that he lacked resources, connections and exposure, but possessed curiosity, patience and a deep love for birds and nature. While others upgraded their gear, he focused on improving his vision and pre-visualisation skills, learning from every imperfect shot.
Over the years, he travelled from local forests to distant wetlands, waking up before dawn to capture fleeting moments in natural light. He remained guided by a belief he often repeated to himself—“Chase the light”—a philosophy that shaped his artistic growth and persistence.
In 2026, his long-cherished dream came true when his work was recognised by National Geographic India. He described the award as more than just a win, calling it the culmination of years of dedication, patience and perseverance.
Delivering a message to aspiring photographers, Dr Ambadkar said the honour belongs to every early morning effort and missed opportunity that shaped his journey. Encouraging others not to give up, he said that those who continue to chase their passion will eventually find their moment in the light.
