Budget termed visionary and inclusive
New Delhi: Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav on Sunday lauded the Union Budget 2026, calling it a visionary, inclusive and forward-looking financial plan that reinforces the government’s commitment to “Health for All” and “Viksit Bharat”.
Boost to healthcare infrastructure
Jadhav said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Budget provides a strong push to the health sector through higher allocations and policy measures aimed at strengthening primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare systems across the country.
Increased allocation for AYUSH
Welcoming the allocation of Rs 4,408 crore for the Ministry of AYUSH, the minister said the enhanced outlay would help accelerate the integration of AYUSH systems with mainstream healthcare, while promoting evidence-based research, innovation and capacity-building nationwide, PTI reported.
Focus on wellness and preventive care
Jadhav said the Budget reflects the government’s resolve to position India as a global hub for wellness and traditional medicine. He noted that AYUSH-based interventions have played an important role in preventive healthcare, public health resilience and community well-being.
Education and training initiatives
Highlighting key priorities, the minister said the Budget 2026–27 will support modernisation of AYUSH education and training, along with expansion of AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres under the National AYUSH Mission.
New institutes and lab upgrades
He added that the Budget proposes the establishment of three new All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) to strengthen education, clinical services and research. It also provides for the upgradation of AYUSH pharmacies and drug testing laboratories to improve quality control and skilled manpower availability.
Global outreach in traditional medicine
The minister said the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Jamnagar will be upgraded to promote evidence-based research and international cooperation. He added that the Budget would encourage greater global collaboration in Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy.
Vision of holistic health
Jadhav said the government’s emphasis on holistic health reflects India’s civilisational ethos of “Swasth Bharat, Sampann Bharat”, ensuring that traditional knowledge and modern science progress together to build a healthier, resilient and self-reliant nation.
