Hyderabad: A man from Narsampet has been left in critical condition after a botched auricular surgery allegedly performed by unqualified practitioners, triggering swift action from the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC).
According to a press release, the TSMC has prioritised the case of Rajinikanth, who suffered severe complications after undergoing an ear-related procedure conducted by individuals posing as medical professionals at Mangalavaripet, near Narsampet.
A medical inspection team led by Dr. V. Naresh Kumar and Dr. Venkataswamy visited the site and confirmed that the procedure was carried out by Bairu Chittibabu, an alleged fake doctor, and Kothapalli Kausalya, an unqualified elderly woman. The surgery took place in highly unhygienic conditions, posing grave risks to the patient, The Hans India reported.
Officials said the duo had been illegally storing and administering injections such as Diclofenac, Gentamicin, and Dexamethasone. Investigators also discovered that they had been offering medical services for years without any formal training and had even been administering anaesthesia during surgical procedures.
When the team inspected another operation site in a nearby village, they found a makeshift and unsafe setup, with an old wooden bench being used as an operating table. Kausalya reportedly admitted to performing two to three surgeries per month despite having no medical qualification whatsoever.
Doctors warned that such illegal rural practices pose extreme health risks, including:
- Severe infections and sepsis
- Respiratory arrest from incorrect anaesthetic doses
- Bleeding and shock
- Kidney damage
- Ear and hearing complications due to Gentamicin
- High blood sugar and suppressed immunity from steroids
- Risk of death from lack of post-operative care and misdiagnosis
TSMC officials said this case highlights the danger growing across rural areas, where untrained practitioners continue to perform high-risk procedures, endangering lives.
Dr. Naresh Kumar told The Hans India that cases will be filed under the NMC and TMPR Acts against both Kausalya and Chittibabu for endangering the life of a young man through illegal and unsafe surgical practices.
