Inaugurates Cardiology and Ortho Super-Speciality Wings, Announces Major Infra Upgrades
Lucknow – In a significant boost to Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple health projects worth ₹1,000 crore at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow. The projects aim to position the state’s health services as future-ready and aligned with global standards.
Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak and Medical Education Minister Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh were also present at the ceremony.
“Adapt or Lag Behind”: CM Calls for Proactive Healthcare Vision
Speaking at the event, CM Adityanath emphasized the importance of innovation and preparedness in healthcare.
“Success belongs to those who adapt with time. Those who prepare in advance move ahead, those who don’t, fall behind,” he said.
He praised institutions like KGMU and SGPGI, saying they had earned the trust of patients from UP, neighbouring states, and even Nepal.
Linking Medical Institutions with IIT Kanpur’s Tech Hub
Highlighting the role of technology in modern medicine, CM Adityanath announced plans to collaborate with IIT Kanpur’s Centre of Excellence in Medical Technology, connecting it with KGMU and SGPGI.
“This partnership will help us tackle future global health challenges,” he said.
Medical Education Expansion Across Uttar Pradesh
The CM noted that Uttar Pradesh is witnessing rapid growth in medical education.
“In 1947, there were very few government medical colleges in UP. Just last year, we admitted students in 17 new colleges—13 government, 3 PPP model, and one private,” he added.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to having one medical college in every district, improving both accessibility and quality of care.

CM Adityanath inaugurated a state-of-the-art cardiology centre at KGMU, featuring 92 ICCU beds and modern diagnostic facilities.
KGMU VC Prof Sonia Nityanand said this would help ease the burden on SGPGI, Lohia Institute, and Lari Cardiology.

‘Healthcare Is a Mission, Not Just a Service’
CM Adityanath underscored the importance of treating healthcare development as a mission rather than mere service delivery. He praised the double-engine government model—BJP-led Centre and State—for accelerating health infrastructure growth in UP.
He added that soon, district-level colleges would handle initial screenings, reducing unnecessary referrals to tertiary centres like KGMU.
India’s Healthcare Evolution
Reflecting on India’s rise in global rankings, the CM said:
“We’ve moved from being the world’s 11th-largest economy to the fourth. Earlier, India had only one AIIMS. Now, several AIIMS are functional, blending healthcare with research.”
He concluded by calling on medical professionals to lead innovation and ensure Uttar Pradesh’s health systems are prepared for future challenges.
