
Chennai: Medical and dental aspirants seeking admission into Tamil Nadu Government Medical and Dental Colleges will now face strict post-course obligations, as per the 2025–2026 MBBS/BDS admission prospectus released by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME).
According to the new guidelines, students must serve in rural areas of the state for five years after completing their course or pay a penalty of ₹5 lakh for violating the bond terms.
🔹 Key Highlights of the Bond Conditions
- Mandatory Rural Service:
All candidates admitted to MBBS/BDS courses must serve the Tamil Nadu State Government in rural postings for at least 5 years after registration as a medical practitioner. - Time Frame for Posting:
The government can demand service within two years of registration, and students must serve wherever assigned, as per general or special orders. - Bond Submission:
Students must submit an agreement bond at the time of admission, agreeing to these terms. - Penalty for Violation:
Failure to complete the service will result in a ₹5 lakh fine or higher, as specified by the government.
🔸 Other Bond Conditions
- Service Regulations:
During bond service, the students’ pay, allowances, and working conditions will be governed by the government’s prevailing rules for the assigned post. - Seat-Leaving Penalty:
- Students who discontinue the course after the cut-off date set by NMC/DCI will have to pay ₹10 lakh as penalty.
- This applies to dropouts on or after the notified date in the admission year or any subsequent year.
- Legal Recovery Clause:
Any unpaid dues under this bond will be recovered as arrears of land revenue, giving the government strong legal authority for recovery. - Dispute Resolution:
Disputes (except where government decisions are final) will be subject to arbitration by the Director of Medical Education, whose decision will be binding.
