Launch of Development Projects Worth ₹2,580 Crore
Silvassa: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the 450-bed NAMO Hospital in Silvassa and launched various development projects worth over ₹2,580 crore in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure
The newly inaugurated NAMO Hospital, built at a cost of over ₹460 crore, is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services, particularly benefiting the tribal population. The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to expand healthcare access through initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat and Jan Aushadhi centers, which provide affordable medicines and free treatment.
Transforming the Region’s Identity
During his address, PM Modi reflected on his long-standing connection with the region and its remarkable transformation over the past decade. He compared its potential to Singapore’s early development and urged citizens to adopt a strong resolve for progress. He emphasized that Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu are not just a Union Territory but a symbol of heritage and pride, evolving into a model region with high-tech infrastructure, world-class educational institutes, and industrial growth.
Major Educational and Employment Boost
The Prime Minister noted that earlier, students from the region had to travel elsewhere for higher education. Today, it boasts six national-level institutions, including Namo Medical College, Gujarat National Law University, and IIIT Diu. He also announced reserved seats for local students and the expansion of smart classrooms.
In terms of employment, the region is witnessing significant industrial growth, with new manufacturing initiatives and investments generating job opportunities, particularly for tribal communities, women, and marginalized groups. The Gir Adarsh Aajeevika Yojana is helping empower SC, ST, OBC, and women through small dairy farm setups.
Enhancing Tourism and Connectivity
Tourism has emerged as a major employment driver. Developments such as the Ram Setu, Namo Path, Tent City in Daman, and Night Market are enhancing the region’s appeal. Infrastructure projects, including beach development, a cable car project in Diu, and the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway, are improving connectivity. A bullet train station is also being developed near Dadra.
Call for a Healthier Nation
PM Modi addressed the rising concern of obesity, warning that by 2050, over 440 million Indians could be affected. He urged people to reduce their cooking oil consumption by 10% each month and incorporate physical activity into their daily routine.
Commitment to Development and Good Governance
The Prime Minister reiterated his vision of making Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu a hub of growth and good governance. He praised the local administration, led by Shri Praful Patel, for their efforts and assured continued support for the region’s progress.
“I congratulate the people of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu for the successful development projects launched today and express my gratitude for their warmth and support,” PM Modi concluded.
