Multiple Officials Under Scrutiny
Gudivada – Eleven staff members of Gudivada Government Area Hospital, including the former superintendent, six doctors, two nursing superintendents, an administrative officer, and a pharmacist, are facing disciplinary action for alleged negligence, mismanagement, and dereliction of duty. The charges stem from repeated audit warnings being ignored and patient welfare being compromised.
Serious Lapses and Poor Standards
An Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) inspection in February 2020 revealed irregularities in drug stock, unhygienic conditions, substandard food, and lack of cleanliness. The report also noted scattered medical kits, errors in patient records, and discrepancies in medicine inventory. Payments worth several lakhs were made to a driver for unrelated work while a long-unused vehicle was left idle.
Ignored Warnings and Accountability
Despite internal audit alerts issued between 2014 and 2018, no corrective measures were implemented. Nursing superintendents and the pharmacist were found responsible for lapses in medicine supply, poor hygiene, and failure to change patient blankets daily. The findings prompted Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Minister Satya Kumar Yadav to order disciplinary action.
Minister’s Warning and Previous Similar Action
Condemning the accused for endangering patients’ lives, Yadav criticised the negligence and irregularities in state hospitals under the previous administration. He vowed strict action to improve supervision and raise healthcare standards. Just two weeks ago, he ordered a similar probe against 22 staff members at Anakapalle Government Hospital, where an ACB report cited misconduct, negligence, poor hygiene, and inadequate medical documentation by doctors and nurses.
